How to Clean a Glass Top Stove

Time Frame

The most important thing to remember when cleaning a glass top stove is that the faster you clean the spill, the easier it will be to remove. Don't clean the burners while they are hot, but do wipe away anything around the burners. Once the burners have cooled completely, make sure you scrub them as well.

Commercial Cleaners

Commercial cleaners are safe for your glass top stove as long as they aren't abrasive. Most stoves come with a sample bottle of cleaner formulated for glass and ceramic, but buying the special cleanser is expensive and unnecessary. You can use any all-purpose or glass cleaner to remove stains and spills. Just make sure you use a non-scratching sponge or wipe to scrub. You can also try prepackaged window cleaning wipes.

Homemade Cleansers

Some people might prefer to whip up their own batch of homemade cleaners. A thick paste of baking soda and water will help remove cooked on stains. Lemon juice is also useful for dissolving stuck-on substances. An all-purpose cleaner of half-vinegar and half-water is also effective. Whatever you use, scrub gently with a non-scratching sponge.

Razor

Sometimes, something will cook on so thoroughly that none of the cleaners will remove it. For example, sugar is difficult to remove. If that happens, you might have to get a razor blade and scrape off the spill. Use with the sharp edge pointed away from you, working from the outside of the stain inward. Go slowly and carefully to avoid scratching the glass.

Warning

Never clean your stove when it is hot, especially if you are using a cool or room-temperature cleaner. The swift change in temperature could cause the glass top to crack. References
