Before tossing your coffee grinder in the trash, it's worth spending a few minutes to test the motor to determine if it still works. Here's how it's done:
1. Disassemble all three parts. A Model BCG100 KitchenAid blade coffee grinder is a three piece unit. These pieces are 1) the plastic lid 2) the stainless metal grinding cup and the 3) motor housing or base. While the metal grinding cup looks like it is attached to the housing, it actually twists off from the base in a counter clockwise rotation. A twist of one-half inch to the left and a quick tug is all it takes to disengage the grinding cup from the base.
2. Place the plastic cup on the base to test the motor. Once all three pieces have been disassembled, test the motor by placing the plastic lid on the housing, lining up the tiny pegs (ie the switches) and pressing downwards.
3. What to do if the motor works. If the motor works, then all your KitchenAid coffee grinder needs is a good brushing to work again. Use a clean, dry toothbrush to gently brush away accumulated coffee dust near the switch pegs in the lid, and around the seams of the base and the grinding cup.
4. What if the motor still isn't working? If the motor does NOT turn on, don't be too quick to give up yet. It's quite possible that one of the peg-like switches in the lid may have broken off. These plastic pegs depress two small rubber seals that engage the motor (see picture). To test the motor, press these two seals simultaneously using paper clips. If the motor turns on, than all that's needed to repair your coffee grinder is a replacement lid. This can be ordered at no charge from KitchenAid by calling 1-800-541-6390
--If however the motor still doesn't turn on, your KitchenAid coffee grinder is probably broken for good. KitchenAid does have an awesome warranty program and it is certainly worth a call to the above customer service number to determine if the coffee grinder can be repaired.

Post a CommentGood info. Still no electricity in my office so I can only tap into the computer when everything else is off on the other side of the house which has electricity. Sorry I am behind. It's also hard to type in the dark. I'm not very good at it. Ha!
Great info here!
