The first step for cleaning mini blinds is to take them down from your windows. It is much easier to clean them when you have easy access to both sides, and uninstalling them is very easy. For most mini blinds, just open the lever that holds them into their mount, and pull them out. Be gentle though, because especially old mini blinds can be a little bit brittle and are liable to break.
Work on the Floor
You will want a hard surface directly behind your mini blinds when you clean them, so the best way to clean mini blinds is to lay them on an old towel or sheet on the floor. This towel or sheet should be clean because you don't want it to get stuff on your blinds after you are done cleaning them.
Use Mild Cleaning Solution and Rag
You will want to use a mild cleaning solution, such as Pine Sol diluted in water, along with a soft rag to clean your mini blinds. As you clean them, if you notice that the water is so dirty that it is leaving dirty streaks on your blinds, then you will want to dump it out and make a clean batch.
Two-Sided Technique
In order to get the mini-blinds clean, you will first want to close them all the way (so that each strip is overlapping the one below) and then wipe downward until you get all the dirt you can off just the bottom half of each strip. Then flip the blinds over and get them into the same orientation as above so you have access to the dirty half of each strip, and wipe those clean as well.
This is the best way to clean mini blinds because it allows you to get at the bits that are hidden under the strip that is overlapping it. Other methods will require you to wipe each strip clean individually, which takes a really long time.
Rinse Them Clean
Chances are, you will get them a little dirty while you are cleaning them, with putting dirty hands on the blinds, or something, so before you put them back up, get a clean rag and use plain water to wipe down the blinds and get any last visible bits of dirt off. Then reinstall them and you are done!
