It is very important that at least two or three times a year that your gutters on your home be cleaned out. If leaves and debris are allowed to gather in your gutters then you could become faced with some real maintenance issues on your home. During heavy rainy seasons your home can become exposed to wood rot, cause from stopped up gutters, not draining properly. Therefore, if your gutters are stopped up they can cause damage to your windows, doors and even your foundation. To prevent this from happening I have made a guideline for you to follow:

You will need a very strong ladder that you can anchor against the house. Make certain your ladder is secured and that it can hold the weight of your body. You should take every safety precaution to protect yourself if you are doing this task by yourself. You should being wearing a pair of safety glasses to protect your eyes from debris and work gloves to protect your hands.

Next you are going to make certain you have your hose hooked up to an outside faucet. Now you will need a bucket, a couple trash bags, garden trowel, and a plumber's auger. Before you skinny up the ladder it is wise to toss all your needed materials into a bucket or better yet if you found a helper it would make this job so much easier.

Begin by starting at the drain outlet by pulling out all of the debris and leaves. You can either use your hands or a garden towel to pull the wet soggy debris from your drain.

Now you are ready to start blasting your gutters with your garden hose. Make certain you have some good water pressure and that all your gutters are draining properly. If you find that your gutters still are not draining properly, then you should try using your plumber's auger to relieve any clogged material. After you have done that your gutters should be free from all leaves and debris.
