How to Clean and Preserve Shark Teeth

Alicia Bodine
Adults and children who hunt for treasures along the shore line can end up scoring a few shark teeth. These teeth will either be white, black or brown in color. Shark teeth are not only useful for observation in science class, but they can also be used to make crafts. If you decide to use your shark teeth for science or craft projects, you will want to clean and preserve them first.

You will need the following items to clean and preserve your shark tooth:

Mild dish soap
Water
Paper towel
Mineral oil
Shadow box

Follow these steps to clean and preserve your shark tooth:

Step 1:
Place two drops of mild dish soap in a bowl of warm water.

Step 2:
Set your shark tooth in the bowl of soapy water. Let it sit for five minutes.

Step 3:
Wipe your shark tooth off with a paper towel. The shark tooth is now clean. Set it out in the sun to dry.

Step 4:
Wipe the shark tooth down with baby oil to give it a shiny appearance.

Step 5:
Place your shark tooth in a shadow box for display, or use it to make a necklace.

Tip:
If your shark tooth has dirt that is stuck on, you can use a soft bristle tooth brush to remove the dirt.
