How to Clean Roof Gutters and Prevent Future Cleanups

Cleaning your gutter becomes a chore that usually has to be done at least twice a year. This article will show you how to clean your gutter for the last time and how to prevent future clean ups. Before starting the cleaning process go to your Home Center to purchase the gutter cover. Measure the length of your gutters so you know the total length you need to purchase.

Tools and Material Required for this Project:

Ladder
Gutter Scoop
Gutter Cover
Work Gloves
Garden Hose

Step1:
Start at one end of your house by erecting your extension ladder

Step2:
Put on your work gloves and with your gutter scoop start at one end of your house removing all the leaves and dirt from the gutter.

Step3:
Work your way towards the other end of the house repeating step 2 above.

Step4:
Repeat steps 1, 2, and 3 for any other gutters you may have.

Step5:
When all finished, wash out gutters with garden hose until water rushes out the gutter leader. If necessary clean out leaders with garden hose.

Step6:
Now you are ready to install the gutter covers. Follow the installation instructions for the type of gutter cover you purchased. Some gutter covers simply snap into place and may not require any tools.
