I found an old piece of jewelry at a yard sale. I bought it for twenty-five cents because it said Tiffany & Co even though it was very dirty. I took the bracelet home and looked it up on eBay. I found out it was a Tiffany 925 sterling silver Bangle. Now I had to figure out how to clean it because it was covered with a dark black coat of tarnish. This is how I cleaned this sterling silver jewelry.
Things You Will Need
- · Baking soda
- · A bowl
- · Aluminum foil
- · Salt
- · Tooth brush
- · Spoon
- · cloth
- 1. Take a bowl and line it with a piece of aluminum foil. Take a spoon full of salt and put it on the aluminum foil.
- 2. Add a spoon full of baking soda to the salt. Turn on the hot water side of your sink on and wait until the water gets hot.
- 3. Pour a good amount of hot water over the salt and baking soda. My silver jewelry was very dirty, so I added another spoon full of salt and baking soda to the mixture. Take your spoon and mix the salt and baking soda into the hot water until the water dissolves it.
- 4. Put your silver jewelry in the bowl and let it soak for a few minutes. My Tiffany & Co Bangle had writing on it and the tarnish was still covering the writing after I took the jewelry out of the cleaning mixture.
- 5. Take your toothbrush and wet it with water. Shake some baking soda on the toothbrush and brush the silver jewelry with the toothbrush. The baking soda will clean away the grime like butter. Rinse the silver jewelry in your mixture and dry it off with a cloth. You now have very clean and shiny silver jewelry.
Tips
- · This will work on silver jewelry and silver coins. Some people do not want to clean their silver coins, so think about it before you do it.
- · Do not clean silver jewelry that has any kind of stone in it. There is no guarantee this mixture won't hurt the stones, so don't use it.
- · This mixture is harmless to your silver, but will dissolve tarnish and dirt
Results: My twenty-five cent piece of jewelry is worth over fifty dollars when sold on eBay. Not sure yet what is worth in silver value, but it is nice and heavy. This was a very good yard sale buy.
