Things You Will Need To Clean Your Whirlpool Dishwasher:
1 cup bleach
Old toothbrush
Rag for cleaning
Step 1:
Measure out 1 cup of bleach and place in the compartment for your detergents and rinsing agents in the door of your Whirlpool dishwasher. Close the lids on these compartments and leave the door open.
Step 2:
Pull out the drawers from the top and bottom unit to remove completely and free up space to clean the floor of the Whirlpool dishwasher. Use the old toothbrush to scrape away at any old food or debris that is in the small holes of the floor. Remove the debris and place in the trash.
Step 3:
Replace the drawer units on the top and bottom of the dishwasher and close the main door. Set the selector knob to Run, and let the dishwasher run its regular cleaning course.
Step 4:
Remove the debris trap in the rear right corner of the floor of the unit on your whirlpool dishwasher. This will have any remaining debris or food particles inside and should be emptied into the trash.
Whirlpool dishwashers have many different cycles and models on the market. Depending on your specific model, your selector knob may not say Run. Your unit may have Pots and Pans or Heavy Duty as an option and either of these will run the same way. When removing the drawers from the unit, once the drawer has reached the farthest out it can be pulled, gently pull upwards on the drawer to free it from the track.
There are Whirlpool models that do not allow you to remove the drawers from the track, and some do not have a debris trap. If this is the case, debris can fall down into the holes of the unit in the floor and cause a backup. Your local Whirlpool repairman can be called upon for information on how to remedy this situation. Never try to clean the dishwasher while it is running through a cycle, as this can cause bodily injury.
