How to Clear Your Browser Cache - Internet Explorer 7

Clear Your Browser Cache and Protect Your Privacy Online

M. Kayo
You should clear your browser cache on a regular basis. The web browser on your computer stores every image, web page, cookie or anything else you download and stores these in a cache. You should regularly clear this cache of any items which are no longer needed. When you clear your cache of these unnecessary items, you free up more space on your computer's memory which allows your computer to work faster and more efficiently. Clearing your browser cache will also help to protect your privacy.

It's important to clear your browser cache occasionally because you may be "shedding" personal information including email addresses, passwords, ID's, and cookies without even knowing it. You must properly configure your browser in order to manage the types and amount of information you are revealing to outsiders. Some browsers are now allowing more user control over the information that websites store in your computer. This information can be stored temporarily or permanently, depending on the site.

Some browsers may allow you to see a notice when a particular website tries to place a cookie file on your hard drive, and may even give you some information about the cookie and who is sending it. Netscape allows you to accept or reject cookies, or even block all cookies. Some cookies are innocuous, but others are placed there to collect data and even track where you go and what pages you open on the internet.

Follow these steps to clear your Internet Explorer 7 cache:

Step 1 - With your computer powered up, open up your Internet Explorer 7 web browser.

Step 2 - Press the "ALT" button on your keyboard.

Step 3 - Click on the "TOOLS" menu.

Step 4 - Check to see that the "General" tab is selected.

Step 5 - In the "Browsing History" window, click on the "Delete" button.

Step 6 - In the "Temporary Internet Files" window, click on "Delete Files" button. While you're in this window, you may want to clear out any cookies and your web browsing history.

• If you want to clear your browser cache for just the page you're currently viewing, Press and hold the "CTRL" key, then press the "F5" key.
