How to Clear a Job Interview

Stepping Ahead of the Rest

After receiving the phone call, inviting you into the office to visit with the people who will determine whether you will receive the position applied for, it starts to set in that perhaps you are not completely prepared for the interview. Here are some do's and don'ts of an interview, to help turn the situation from a mountain to a mole hill.

Do's

- Dress for the position. If it is professional, then dress the way you might to impress your employer, to gain the promotion you will want one day.

- Do a scan of your resume, to be certain everything is up to date, and nothing is fabricated.

- Have multiple copies of your resume on hand, for anyone else in the company who will need an extra copy.

- Do your research :

Learn about the company's history, the mission statement, where they are going, the options you as an employee will have. Have questions prepared for the interviewer.

Questions which might be asked of you. Such as: Why you think you would be right for the position.. What you have to offer the company.. Etc..

- Show up at least fifteen minutes early, unless advised otherwise.

Don'ts-

- Wear clothing that is torn, revealing, or showing rude comments.

- Share information which is not pertinent to the position you are applying for at the time.

- Have body piercing, or art work showing. Try to cover, or remove these things if applicable to the position you are applying for. Remember, you are a business professional.

- Try to wing it. If you have not done your research, do not try to pretend you have.

- Think, that just because you have the interview means the job is yours. Typically many positions will be available within a company, and even though you may not be right for the initial position, most companies keep you in mind for others.

- Use foul, degrading, or demeaning language during the interview.

These are a few suggestions to help guide you along the pathway to a wonderful interview. Most professional companies are seeking employees who are business oriented. So go out there and show them you mean business. You are good for their company, and you would be a great asset. Remember that the interview is a face to face first meeting which will either set you apart from the rest, or link you to them.

Good luck on your interview!

Well, to be short. Which is funny because I am rather short. Ok I digress. I live in the central/southern part of the US. I enjoy writing, and singing, and I almost have the american dream.  View profile
