How to Make a Cloud Costume

Chad R. Herman
Halloween is coming and you want the coolest costume around, or at least one that is more interesting than the store bought brands. I have for you today, the Cloud Costume. The first thing you need to think about is how committed do you want to be to this costume. You can go very easy, or very complex with this particular costume. You can BE a cloud, or you can look like a cloud. You're going to need thousands of cotton balls. Don't roll your eyes, you haven't seen anything yet.

Put on plain white clothes. This is a very important step, because you are the base layer of your costume. Put white makeup on all exposed skin. Try to make the skin the same color as the shirt and pants and what not. Underneath the clothes toss in 2 to three shirts in the back, and a pair of pants and a shirt or two in the front. Make sure you can't see the colors outside of the t-shirt. Tie a white jacket, preferably the same color as the other white to the right side of his waist. (NOTE: If you can't find a white jackets, tie a large sheet around him and let a lot of the material bunch up on the side. Tuck in as much of the bottom of the sheet as you can till there is a large bulge next to him.

With clear drying Elmer's glue place one layer of cotton balls over the entire body. Do not place the cotton balls in rows. Place them as close as you can get them and at random. There should be almost no piece of person visible. When you get to the face, cover the eyebrows, all budding facial hair, and as much of the face as is comfortable for the person, but make sure they can breathe and see. If you can get white contacts, that is even better. Finally, paint their eyelashes.

Now, start filling in the major 90 degree gaps that are on the "model" with more cotton balls. the cotton balls give the view of randomness, but keep the round look we're looking for. If there is a bulge on his right side, make it connect in a sloping fashion, not 90 degrees. Cover as much of the person's bulges, and continue you to build up as high as you want. You are creating a large building thunderstorm cloud. Keep putting cotton balls on till there is at least 4 layers deep of cotton balls, and it is taking on a mountainous effect. You are done. You have successfully created a huge cumulo nimbus cloud.
