How to Make a Coin Vanish

Looking for a way to break the ice at the office? Learning this simple coin vanish will help break the ice at any office. It can also be beneficial when working with kids or simply just when you want to perform a magic trick.

Learning how to make a coin vanish can be simple. There are several methods you can use and several different variations. I have chosen to teach you a simple palm method as I feel it is the easiest to do. Although, there are tons of variations, when you find one that you are good at, stick with it. If you continually do the same one, you will get tons of practice in. Practice is the key to any sleight of hand. If you can master one way to vanish a coin, you minimize the amount of slip ups you can have in a performance.

The Vanish: Take the coin and start with it in the center of your left hand. You should put the coin in the palm of your left hand. Then, you will pretend to toss the coin into your right hand (meanwhile you are really keeping the coin in the palm of your left hand). You will then close your right hand (pretending to catch the coin) while you keep the coin in the palm of your left hand. Now, when you open your right hand to show that the coin is not there, drop the coin into your pocket. Everyone will be focused on your closed hand looking for the coin. This is called misdirection. While they are looking at your closed hand, that is the time to drop the coin into your pocket. You can do several tricks to make the coin reappear. Read one to see my favorite way of making the coin reappear.

There are several tricks you can perform with a coin vanish. One I like to do with kids is this: I take a coin, vanish it as described above, and I have a hidden duplicate coin inside my shoe or some other random place. Once I vanish the coin, I explain to my audience that sometimes, I find money in my shoes. I then take off one of my shoes, and there is the duplicate coin. Kids love this one. They really believe the coin has traveled into your shoe. It is a sure winner every time. Remember, the key is performance!
