How to Make a Collage

Emily Acker
Do you have a bunch of old magazines sitting around? Maybe you subscribe to a bunch of magazines (as I do) and you don't like to just throw them out after you read them each month. Do you love free expression? Would you love to make something colorful to hang on your wall? Or maybe a collage card to gift as a gift? This article can help you to do all of the above!

First, what you need:
Card stock - a large piece for the wall hanging, a folded card sized piece for the greeting card.
Glue - I like to use the stick variety.
Magazines - catalogs or other colorful paper will also work.
Decorative paper clip or frame if you are making the wall hanging.
Additional decorations are optional - such as glitter glue, small beads, quotes written on paper, or whatever else you choose.

Second, what you need to do:
1. Tear or cut (I did both) the paper into pieces of various sizes, shapes, and colors. Do this as randomly as possible.
2. Spread glue on the back of each piece of paper before pressing them down on the card stock. Place the papers in any order, in any pattern, any way you want.
3. This step is optional. You may choose to use a certain color of the paper clippings to make a shape or design on top of the collage that you have already laid down. I made a peace sign in tan on my wall hanging.
4. This step is also optional. You may choose to add words to the top of your collage - such as a greeting if you are making a card, or a quote if you are making a wall hanging. I printed the quote on white paper, and cut a square around each individual letter and glued them on in order on my wall hanging.
5. Add additional decorations if you like. I made streaks of glitter glue on one of my hangings, and added beads to the top of the peace sign on the other. Decorate any way you want.
6. Allow to dry completely.
7. If you made the wall hanging, you can now put it inside the frame, or you can use the decorative paper clip as a hanger. If you made the card, you are now ready to write it out and give it away.

Remember, this collage is supposed to be random and colorful, so don't stress, relax and have fun!
