How College Prepares You for a Life of Success or Failure

Todd Hicks
It is widely believed that the purpose of pursuing a higher education is to obtain a degree in order to get a good-paying job; however, there is more to it than this. Taking this route can also help determine whether you are on the right track in life or the wrong one. You will learn how college gets you ready to achieve tremendous success or failure.

It makes you learn how to study very well in order to master your material and graduate. If you can handle this challenge, you should be able to handle almost any task you encounter in your career.

It makes you master the art of punctuality as you learn to always arrive to your classes on time. It is a must to always be on time in the business world in order to keep your job or hold onto your clients.

It constantly keeps you busy working on term papers. While you do this, you pay attention to detail, follow your teacher's assignment directions and do what it takes to do well. You will have to do all of this on your reports on the job.

It can lead you to reach out to other students you have never met in order to build friendships. Well, you will probably have to have strong social skills and be able to communicate well to have a successful career.

It forces you to do at least a few group projects while learning how to work with others and reach a consensus in regard to how the project will be carried out. It is so important to do these things with a firm that relies on teamwork.

It focuses on a grades system. Each time you finish a test or term paper, you receive a grade that measures how well you did. You could go through something similar to this at a job that deals with performance reviews.

It has you do some class presentations. Before you do them, you spend time preparing to do them right. This comes in handy because some professions include presentations.

It makes you "hang in there" for four years or more. This can help you build the mental endurance you need for a long career.

It might have you do an internship before graduating. While doing this, you learn useful skills while learning what it takes to succeed in the field you are preparing to enter.

It turns you into a mature adult as you eliminate having the silliness you exhibited in high school. You must have your act together to make it in the corporate world.

You have learned how college gets you ready to achieve tremendous success or failure.
