Brainstorm.
The point of brainstorming is to come up with any and every idea you can. In order to develop a great idea, you need to be able to have tons of them sitting in the queue. And maybe, just maybe, one of them will become extremely popular.
Even in terms of starting a business, many small business owners will tell you that their ideas came from sitting down, concentrating, and coming up with ideas. Or it may be from doing something differently. Plenty of people struggle to find new ideas, because they are constantly following the same routine. Do something differently. Interact with a different group of people, or approach a situation in a way you wouldn't normally approach it. Especially when it comes to writing, if you can't come up with fresh new topics in a timely manner, you'll only become more frustrated. Since writing requires unique prose, only you have the power to write the way you want to.
Be inspired.
All around you, the joys of life are happening - whether it be the kindness of a stranger, the healing of a disease, or the birth of a baby. We as humans are extremely emotional creatures, so something that moved you will probably do the same for the next person. If you feel inspired or proud to be a part of something, feel free to write about it. If you look around you just sitting in front of your seat, you can probably find 10 topics to write about right now.
Solve problems.
Nowadays, everyone isn't writing articles about just news and sports. When people surf the internet, they want information on how to fix a pipe, treat a disease, or comfort a friend. The internet is a vast sea of knowledge, and as a writer, it is your job to go and help others solve some of the issues they are faced with. If you have any skills or knowledge that you think would be useful to someone somewhere on this earth, it probably is. We are all faced with pretty much the same problems, and if we aren't, there's probably someone who is. Your insight on how to catch mosquitoes is sure not to disappoint, and people will be thankful for your opinions on the matter.
If you find that you sit down and think for hours on end but you have nothing to write about, you're probably a boring person.....either that or you're narrow-minded. Find ways to become more knowledgeable and interesting by reading other people's articles and books. In order to have anything to write about, you must have a knowledge of whatever it is you are going to write. By seeing how others interpret things and put their ideas down on paper, you are stimulating your brain for your own ideas. The exchange of information promotes creativity, so grab any information you can get!
Write about what you enjoy.
So many people force themselves to write on topics they don't really understand or don't really enjoy. No matter how you try to force your un-cooperative brain to create intriguing and exciting prose, it's not going to happen. In order to provide useful and insightful articles on any topic, a writer must have a liking for what they write about.
Although possible, a writer can create a good paper or article on topics they aren't really fond of, but don't expect it to be your best work.
Write. Without thinking.
A lot of people play the game where they just sit down and write. Anything and everything. The sentences don't even have to match up, there just has to be the sound of a pencil moving. Although this exercise may seem stupid, it is quite useful. If you write without thinking, you'll be surprised to see where your train of thought is leading to. Your ideas may even make it to your next article!
Be opinionated.
In case you haven't noticed, there are always topical discussions going around that won't satisfy everybody. Everywhere you go, people will always find something to disagree on, sparking debates and arguments. If you want to be the center of attention (hehe) or you just want to see what others' thoughts are on a topic you think is rather interesting, don't hesitate to write something like an editorial. You'll get to see what others think about your opinion, and it will spark creative debates (or violent ones).
Whatever you do, never stop writing. Communication is vital to a breathing, colorful, and lively society. Without it, we would probably have died long ago. Whatever it is you write, know that you will enrich someone's life somewhere on this earth.
