How to Compare London Hotel Prices

James Gapinski
With its rich history and bustling night life, London is a popular vacation stop for most tourists visiting England. However, as the UK's largest city, London offers so many lodging solutions that it can be confusing and stressful for a first-time visitor. Luckily, you can find the right hotel in London if you follow a few specific steps. Comparing London hotels doesn't have to be overly difficult if you know what hotel features to focus on.

Step 1: Compare up-front hotel prices in tandem with other hotel fees. Most travelers immediately focus on the booking price when trying to find a London hotel. However, when comparing hotels you must consider more than just the initial prices. Some hotels charge extra for amenities like Internet or cable TV. Make sure you are getting everything you want and need as you contrast hotel prices.

Step 2: Look for conveniently located hotels. According to the London Evening Standard, London is 607 square miles; what this means for tourists is that travel can be a major inconvenience when visiting this massive city. London's expansive public transportation system is relatively cheap, but constantly traveling from your hotel into the heart of the city can be very obnoxious. A hotel on the outskirts of London may be cheaper, but you'll spend a large portion of your vacation on the train or bus simply getting into the city's center. You'll have a better travel experience if you opt for hotels that are centrally located near any major attractions that you hope to see while in London.

Step 3: Consider off-season rates as you compare hotels. When budgeting for your trip, remember that many hotels and attractions in London have lower prices during the winter months. According to Quality Crown Hotels, those who are willing to adjust their vacation time frames can get high quality hotels at low prices.

Step 4: Compare security measures at each hotel. According to London Councils, the city of London has a high crime rate. When booking a hotel, you primarily want to find out if the common areas are locked and off-limits to street traffic. Secondarily, security cameras or on site security personnel provide additional peace of mind.

Step 5: Compare pictures of each hotel room. Since you'll likely be booking a room without physically seeing it, you want to at least consult some photographs to ensure the room looks like it will suit your needs. A mere textual description can be misleading.

Step 6: Read customer reviews online. At any number of travel sites, you'll be able to read reviews from real customers who have stayed at the London hotels you are considering. A hotel may look good in theory, but in reality it may have poor service or unclean rooms. Customer reviews will shed light on these flaws as you make your final hotel booking decision.

If you diligently follow the aforementioned steps when comparing London hotels, you'll save money and have a more pleasant experience in the UK.
