A Guide Through the University of Florida Admissions Process Starting at the Beginning

The University of Florida admissions process can be an experience for prospective students. Over 27,000 freshman applicants apply every year hoping for the opportunity to be a Gator the next fall. Like most public institutions, the University of Florida admissions is competitive with annual acceptance rate of about 39% each year. The applications process begins long before you fill application forms or writing essays. The process starts when you first look to see what the school offers.

Determine if the University of Florida offers what you are looking for.
Whether you are drawn to the academic programs the University of Florida offers or you heard from a friend that it is a party school, research to see if the University of Florida offers the degree programs, student life or financial aid you are looking for. The University of Florida offers over 100 undergraduate degrees programs spanning disciplines in business, liberal arts, education, nursing, and fine arts. The University of Florida has a student body of over 31,000 full time undergraduate students that most of which live on campus or apartments in Gainesville, Florida. Financial aid is available based on need.

Make sure you have the prerequisites.
Meet all the minimum prerequisites for admissions prior to sending in an application. As like many universities, the University of Florida requires 4 years of English, 4 years of math, 2 years of foreign language, 3 years of science and 3 years of social studies/social sciences for admissions. Half of the SAT scores for incoming freshman last year was between 1160 and 1580 excluding writing exam portion of the SATs. Approximately 96% of the incoming students had a high school GPA of 3.5 or better. If your SAT scores and GPA can compete with other applicants then you can prepare your application.

Make your decision to apply early.
The University of Florida admissions committee requires all freshman applications to be submitted by November 1st. Any applicants that submit an application after that date up to March 1st will fill open spots if there is available space. If the University of Florida is your top school get your application in right away. It is better to submit your application when your senior year in high school is just beginning because the University of Florida admissions is rolling where applications are reviewed as they are submitted.

Complete your application checklist
The University of Florida admissions website http://www.ufl.edu/admissions/ has a complete description of the application requirements. University of Florida application has several components including an application, $30 filing fee, resume, new SAT scores or ACT scores, and personal essay discussing an important event in your life. Freshman applications must be submitted online.

Submit all the requirements PRIOR to the deadline. The earlier the better!
Be sure to meet all University of Florida admissions deadlines. All schools have different deadlines. The University of Florida deadline is much earlier than deadlines for other colleges and universities. Prioritize your applications based on when they are due.
