Part 6 of Dunce Guide on How to Make Your Computer Secure

Rashel Dan
In part 2 of this series, the first tip we discussed on how to make your computer secure was to update you computer frequently or to use an updated operating system. In part 3, the importance of antivirus software was emphasized. The need to eliminate spyware was discussed in part 4. The complexities and importance of a firewall and the importance of being wary of attachments in emails were discussed in part 5. Now we go to other tips.

Tip no. 6 - Avoid visiting objectionable websites

Some of the viruses and spyware that invade today's modern computer are acquired when the user visits an objectionable site. Pornographic sites are notorious for doing this. There are some pornographic sites that cause your computer to be infected with spyware when you visit the site. Do not just click or visit any website just because somebody you chatted with has sent you a message telling you that there is a nice pornographic picture in this or that site. Also avoid clicking popups. Other sites that are often rigged with viruses and spywares are illegal sites. These sites offer that you can freely download pirated software programs, music and even movies. They offer cracks for software, or serial number. Avoid going to these sites at all cost. The security of your data and the hassles of going through a system cash are much more greater than getting pirated freebies. Be careful also not to give your email in any objectionable site as this might make you vulnerable to spam attacks. Spam mail is an email message that is flooded on the Internet to attempt to force a message on people who would not otherwise choose to receive it. It is mostly used for commercial advertising. Some of these sites offering "free porn" or "free pirated software" often sell your email and your personal data to spammers. Avoid giving your credit card to porn sites as much as possible as you might not know if the porn site implements very strong security measures. Some porn sites also purport to be "Legitimate" but in reality they are just there to steal your personal information.

Tip no. 7 - Use a popup blocker

In order that more people may visit their site, some web masters utilize popups. Popups are those annoying windows that just "pop up" when you are surfing the internet. Most of today's modern browsers have built in popup blockers. Use a web browser that can block popups. The latest Internet Explorer which is version 7 has a popup block technology. There also several free popup blockers that can be downloaded from the internet. A good free browser that blocks popups is also Opera which is often dubbed as "The fastest browser on earth." The famed Mozilla firefox which is said to overtake Microsoft's Internet explorer one of these days have also a built in popup blocker. You can also get a third party popup blocker like Adsgone, Popup blocker, Panicware popup stopper etc. Popups are not just annoying; they force users to visit sites which they do not intend to visit. Such site may contain objectionable content or perhaps execute scripts that may cause damage to the computer.

I am bothered with the slow internet connection for quite a long time, but now I found an easy way to handle my problem, which is the software tuneup360.

    Hi
The info about avoiding porn sites is inaccurate. With the increase of the Gumblar hack/virus, many perfectly legitimate, non-porn sites are also infecting people's PCs when they visit the sites.
