How to Make Your Computer Start Up Faster

How to Remove Start Up Items from Your Computer

Nigel Roc
Before, I was always wondering why my computer is very slow in booting up. Sometimes it would take 10 to 15 minutes just to completely load my windows and all the desktop icons. It was a hassle for me because I use my computer in running many applications. This computer that I have is my main source in creating all my thesis requirements. I also use this for all my online businesses and sidelines. Also for video and voice chatting with my relatives overseas and many more.

I tried running several scans on my computer. I tried running Mcafee Anti Virus and Anti Spam which took for over an hour to finish. They didn't detect any infections or corruptions on the system. I tried running AVG anti virus thinking maybe Mcafee doesn't just detect any of the infections but still it's the same thing. I even purchased a tune up utility to make my computer faster. I purchased the utility for $23. Installed it on my computer, ran it several times but no progress. My computer still boots up very slowly. I was very disappointed and don't know what to do about the problem and I planned of reformatting my operating system but I'm concern in losing tons of work that I already saved on my hard drive.

So I tried asking several people and they told me to bring my computer to a local computer store but I don't want to pay for a technician just to fix this problem. I then asked my computer geek friend and he advised me to disable some items that I don't need in my computer's start up. He said it will not affect any functionalities of my computer. I followed it.

Here's the steps to disable start up items:

1. Click "Start".

2. If using Windows Vista:

* On the "Start search box", type "msconfig".

*Press "Enter".

If you are using Windows XP:

*Click "Run"

*Type "msconfig".

*Press "Enter".

3. You will now see the "System Configuration Utility".

4. Click the "Start Up" tab.

5. You will see all the programs running on your start up. Uncheck all the you think is unnecessary in your computer's start up. If your not using all of them, uncheck them all.

7. Click "Apply".

8. Click "Ok".

9. Restart your computer.

Since I started doing the steps above, I noticed a great difference in the performance and speed of my computer. From the 15 minute boot up process before, now it's just taking 2 or 3 minutes to finish loading everything. I can now access all my computer programs real time without any delay and of course it added to my productivity.

It's always nice to find some free tweaks in fixing computer problems and I will always be happy in sharing all my knowledge of computers to all.
