Tips for Helping Those Microsoft-centered Computers

If you want your computer to run more swiftly, then you are not alone. I think we can all agree that our computers are sometimes a huge hassle. In this article, I will discuss how to improve your computer and make it run faster.

The first thing that you must do is a defragmentation of your hard drive. This is something that, ideally, you will want to do every couple of weeks. This is pretty easy to do even for the novice computer user. By selecting your hard drive in the "My Computer" section of your files, you can locate the "Properties" tab. From there, navigate to "Tools" and run the tool. This will help your computer to compress your files and arrange them with minimal effort from you.

Clear all of that useless crap off of your computer. Each and every application and process on your computer is something that will slow it down. Some applications can take more space than others, including those with large video storage. If you delete the things that you never or rarely use, the computer will immediately run more quickly.

When you are messing around with your computer, make sure not to touch the in-depth system preference options. This is never a good idea because the results can vary and they are generally unchangeable. If you do happen to mess up your computer in this way, run the "System Restore" that will turn your computer back into its old self.

One thing that most people do that slows your computer down is putting a large picture as your background. When you do this, the computer has to do a whole lot of work from the time it boots. While it may not take that long for newer and faster computers, it will eventually wear on your computer's system over time.

You will want to try to remove all of the very unnecessary startup applications on your computer. To do this, click the Start button on your computer and select the "Run" dialog box. From there, you will want to type the tag "msconfig" into the corresponding dialog box. From here, you must select "Startup" and deselect any of those programs that you never use. There are lots of programs that you never use so get rid of those at startup. This is a huge space saver for your computer. If you are not sure about what something is, then you should not delete it. You would hate to delete an essential function from your computer.

You probably want to make sure that your computer has the latest drivers loaded and ready for use. This includes the drivers that run your chip-set and your video capabilities. These drivers will take the undue stress off of your computer and make it run very smoothly.
