How Computers Ruin Your Life

Aaron Cman
Computer gamers, computer freaks, computer addicts ect. If you know anyone that follows along one of these lines, they may be a victim of a short and ruined life. Now please bear with me, I'm not saying all people like this will be ruined. I'm only saying about 5% - 10% of people, maybe even less.

Why do I say this? Because people have witnessed and gone through such traumas, I myself was one of the victims. Picture yourself when you might have been that nerd that was totally addicted to Runescape. You would not stop until you've gotten your Dragon Scimitar after you've completed Monkey Madness. You will not stop. You have gone through 139 Shark, 20 Anti-Poison Potions, your set of full rune and you're still stuck on the jail part. You think to yourself 'I will not stop, I will not give up'. It's Monday morning already, 5AM. You haven't slept for almost a day, and you have school in less than 4 hours! You decide to nick off and have a bit of sleep. You wake up, and it's ALREADY 8:15AM! You have school in less than 20 Minutes! You roughly pack a muesli bar or two and your bag and RUN out. You missed the bus! Now you have to walk to school.

You are very tired, you are weak, and you just want to go to sleep. You walk across the zebra crossing... and that's the last thing you do for that day. You walked in front or a car.

That my friends, has happened to a friend of mine. He's O.K. now, still a bit of a no lifer. But, he learnt his lesson.

My first point is for the fact; computers can lead to bad eye sight. The Ultra-Violet rays that project from the screen are harmful. It is also caused that, while 'staring' at the computer screen, you are purposely but unknowingly straining your eyes. Your eyes become strained and they hurt. There a a few ways of which you can try and avoid this situation.

Instead of thinking and staring at the computer for absolutely NO REASON at all, try focus at a distant object, like a poster or a toy.

Another way is to put a screen protector on it. Not only do screen protectors protect your screen from accidental scratches or a misguided dart or whatever, but it also absorbs some of the UV Rays so it isn't as severe. My eyesight has improved a little bit since 4 years ago when I didn't have a Screen Protector. This is a cheap and effective way to avoid bad eyesight.

A method that I personally use which I find quite weird is drinking a lot of water. When I say a lot, I don't mean 3 cups or a truckload of water, but, a litre or so at one time won't harm you. That litre of water WILL force you to get out of your seat and go to the toilet. That way, you won't even have to remember to try and look at a distant object.

Another simple method is to turn your light on. Simple enough, with the light on, it will seem that the rays aren't as strong as they would be with the light turned on. You should try so yourself, without the light turned on, you're most likely going to get bad eyesight faster than a person that uses the computer every day.

My second point is the fact that the Cyber world drags you away from the real world. Your Cyber world can consist of your TV Set or your Computer, either of them, they are the prime suspect.

They drag your real world away from you because they basically turn your 'Addict to the Cyber World' switch on. You are absorbed into that life. You are in a maze with no exit. You cannot escape.

As you are sucked into the world, you ignore what happens around you. Your main and only focus is the computer. If your mum called you to eat dinner, you are more likely not to hear than to hear the everyday command.

By skipping what you need to do in everyday daily life, you are making yourself sick and vulnerable. By not eating, you will be anorexic or underweight. This is bad for your health. If it's vice versa, Donuts, Coke, Beer, Grog, Junk food, if that's all you eat, you'll end up killing yourself from the inside out. You will be fat, and obese. Who likes that? You don't, He doesn't, She doesn't, I don't. Whatever?

Of course, there are many reasons why you can lead a short and ruined life, but these are just the main reasons of how a computer can easily ruin your life. Especially with the games made these days. Do you know why World of Warcraft has an almost never ending storyline? THEY WANT YOU TO COMPLETE THE (Literally) IMPOSSIBLE. And do you know how long that takes? (Rhetorical question, don't answer it).

I myself am still a victim, but not as worse as I was before. I play Guild Wars, everyday, but I can control myself. I am not forcing anyone to not play World of Warcraft, Runescape whatever, I just don't want anyone out there to ruin their lives like some people out there have,
