Many Windows Mobile phones support Microsoft Outlook, making it the preferred email client for business owners on the go. As well, many businesses require Outlook for setting up appointments, sharing workspaces and utilizing other useful Microsoft features that can be only accessed by members with an Outlook account. Configuring Microsoft Outlook for Google Gmail will allow you to take advantage of Microsoft's many business tools. The process will take about 10 minutes.

Configure Microsoft Outlook 2007 to Use Your Gmail Account

Open Microsoft Outlook and click on "Tools," "Account Settings" and then "New" to begin adding your Google Gmail account to Microsoft Outlook 2007.

In the "Add New E-mail Account" window that pops up, input your name, Google email address and the password associated with your Google email. Check the "Manually configure server settings or additional server types" box and click "Next."

Select "Internet E-mail" and then "Next." Verify the user information and then select "IMAP" in the "Server Information" section. Enter "imap.gmail.com" for the "Incoming mail server." Enter "smtp.gmail.com" for the "Outgoing mail server (SMTP)."

Enter your Google email address in the "User Name" box and your email password. Check the "Remember password" box and then click "Next" and then "Finish" to complete the process of adding your Gmail account.

Configure Port Assignments for Gmail

Click on "Tools," "Options" and then "Mail Setup" to begin configuring your new account. Click "E-mail Accounts." Select the account you just created and click "Change." Click "More Settings" and then the "Advanced" tab. Input "993" in the "Incoming server (IMAP)" box and select "SSL" from the box to the right. Enter "587" in the "Outgoing server (SMTP):" and select "TLS" from the box to the right. Then click the "Outgoing Server" tab and select "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication." Ensure that "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" is selected. Click OK->Next->Finish->Close->OK.

You will now be able to use Microsoft Outlook 2007 to manage your Google Gmail account. Now when you send an email from Outlook it will appear as a sent item in both your Outlook and your Gmail account.
