How to Connect to a Proxy Server

Michael Powell
First of all, if you don't have Mozilla Firefox installed by now, then do it. You can download the software from Mozilla homepage.

The definition of a proxy server according to Wikipedia is"a proxy server is a server (a computer system or an application program) that acts as an intermediary for requests from clients seeking resources from other servers. A client connects to the proxy server, requesting some service, such as a file, connection, web page, or other resource, available from a different server."

So, what does it mean to us? It means that when connecting to that kind of server you can hide or change you provide to publicity about your computer location (IP) and protocol.

Okay, you ready? Let's begin. First you have to find a good and reliable proxy server list from where you can choose your proxy server. For example www.samair.ru/proxy/type-07.htm. I suggest you to choose a proxy with higher uptime because then it is guaranteed that you will be behind a proxy during your web browsing.

Now, once you have the proxy server chosen copy it, Open up Mozilla Firefox and follow these simple rules:

1. Go to Tools and open "Options".

2. Click the "Advanced" tab to bring up advanced options for your browser.

3. From there click on "Network" and choose from Connection section "Settings".

4. Then choose "Manual proxy configuration", enter your chosen proxy settings and click OK.

Congratulations! You have set up a working proxy server for your browsing experience through Mozilla Firefox.

Alternative way is using on-line proxy web pages that provide similar service without the need for setting up the server for usage manually.

You can find a list of available on-line proxy web pages from here: www.proxy4free.com/list/webproxy_country1.html . Also when you have set up manually a server for your browser then you may use both proxies at the same time to add an extra layer for higher level of anonymity.

There is also a minus side of using proxy servers and it is speed - when using free and public proxies you will most likely experience slow web page loadings. My suggestion is to not use proxies when it is not necessary or buy an "elite" proxy for faster speeds.

Good luck and safe surfing!

The best proxy server is a separate Linux computer configured correctly that shows the outside an internal 192.168.x.x ip.
