How to Convert ALL CAPS to Lowercase Letters

Get Rid of that Annoying Text

B. Jax
Isn't it annoying WHEN PEOPLE WRITE IN ALL CAPS? Have you ever wanted to convert these words from all caps to lowercase? Maybe you wanted to throw you computer out the window. I am not sure if it upsets you that much, but I nearly tossed mine out the other day. In any case, I have the solution for you.

Emails are very annoying when they are written entirely in caps. It is basically considered rude to write in such a style, but people continue to do it all the time. On the Internet, writing in all caps is more or less the equivalent of yelling. Like many people, I read tons of email everyday. Sometimes I need to include emails I receive into the company newsletter. I got very tired of rewriting text that was typed in all caps. Finally, I found the trick to convert this nonsense in to lowercase words.

Just follow the following steps and you'll never have to deal with this any more. I will assume you are using Microsoft Word. I am not sure if this works in other word processing programs or not. Highlight the all caps text you would like to convert to lowercase letters. Next, simply press Shift and the F3 button at the same time. Ta-da!

PRETEND THIS IS AN ANNOYING ALL CAPS EMAIL MESSAGE

By pressing Shift and F3 one time, you will get:

pretend this is an annoying all caps email message

By pressing Shift and F3 a second time you will convert that original all caps line into this:

Pretend This Is An Annoying All Caps Email Message

Notice how pressing Shift and F3 twice will convert the all caps into a style that just capitalizes the first letter of each word. This can be especially handy if you are converting a headline that was originally written in all caps into a headline that just needs the first letter of each word capitalized.

Another quick tip for you word processors out there: if you are wondering how to underline a sequence of words, but want the words underlined only (and not the spaces between), simply highlight the words and press Control, Shift, W. I hope that helps. Keep typing and now you know how to get rid of those annoying caps.
