Extra Activities
There are always extra activities for home schooled children because they have the flexibility of scheduling things whenever they want to, instead of only after school. Generally, homeschooling takes less time per day, so there is extra time for activities also. If your child likes to dance, she may be able to take additional dance classes. If your child likes sing, he may have time to take voice lessons. You will be able to convince your kids to home school.
Field Trips
A once a month field trip is a fantastic educational experience for home schooled children. At the beginning of the school year allow your children to make a list of the field trips they would like to do throughout the year. Events such as visiting a pumpkin patch, going to the museum, going to the ocean and going to the zoo are always fun. Schedule your field trip on a week day so that it is not crowded. Your children will love marking them down on the calendar and waiting for the day the trip arrives. This is a great incentive to get kids to home school.
Free Time Fridays
Because home schooling is a do it at your own pace school, you can reward your kids when they finish their work early. If all of their weekly work is finished by Friday, let them take Friday off. If all of your kids finish their work, take them on a spontaneous field trip.
Make sure that their work is spaced out evenly throughout the year. Create a Friday checklist that can be used week after week to make sure that they have finished their work. For example, 10 pages of math completed, 1 set of 20 spelling words written ten times with a sentence for each word, spelling test completed, 1 writing assignment completed, 1 chapter in history completed and 1 chapter in science completed.
Schooling Vacations
Go on a vacation to a destination that your children have learned about. You may even want to go to a foreign country where they speak the language that you have been studying.
Accomplishment Awards
Let your children know how they will be rewarded for good work. You can give them a dollar for a A or $10 at the end of the year for completing a subject successfully.
School Sports
Public schools are required in most areas to allow home school children the same opportunities to play on sports teams and in school bands. Let your child know that he or she will still be involved in the same activities that they enjoyed previously.
Let your children know that even though they are being home schooled, that does not mean that they can't see their friends, attend sports events and other activities where they will see their friends from school. If you have the desire, you will be able to get your kids to home school.
