1. Beer makes a great natural snail and slug repellant, especially if you are trying to keep chemicals and pesticides out of your garden. You simply put the beer in a bowl or aluminum pie pan and push it down in the soil near the plants you want protected or at the edge of the garden area you are protecting. The slimy little snails crawl in and can't get out. They drown in the beer. I know you beer fans are thinking, what a way to go and how could this possibly be cruelty! I hear you can use it in mouse traps too.
2. Oddly enough beer makes a decent meat tenderizer and marinade. Put the chunk of meat into a container and pour enough beer over it to soak along with chosen herbs and veggies. Then let it sit for awhile to marinade. Then bake or grill the beer soaked meat. You get your beer and meat in one bite. What could be better?
3. You don't need to be jealous of the meat getting to bathe in beer while you don't get the same pleasure. You can take a bath with beer too. You may smell a bit like a brewery and not want to drive at high speeds, so a policeman doesn't pull you over and instantly arrest you for driving under the influence though, after you take a beer bath. Supposedly the yeast in beer does wonders for your skin and helps to soften it. Maybe it is inhaling the fumes while you soak like a meat marinade that makes you think your skin is softer. It might be fun to try.
4. Wash your hair with beer. Add a little life to limp hair. Mix some fresh beer with a raw egg and lather. Use it right away though because there is nothing worse than stale beer and your hair won't like it either. I wonder if this works as well as some kind of pheromone to attract the opposite sex when they smell your hair. Tell your wife to try it. She will love the attention.
5. Bake beer in homemade bread. Mixed with self-rising flour and sugar the beer adds an interesting taste experience to your bread. Beer has yeast in it and a hearty flavour. It makes sense that it would taste good in bread. You might want to experiment with different kinds to see how it changes the flavor of the bread. If it doesn't work you can always wash it down with the rest of the beer.
6. Add beer to chicken, vegetables and cheddar cheese to make a soup or make it a beef stew or even a pot of chili with beer in it. It adds a nice earthy, hearty flavor.
7. Drink the beer and save the cans to make recycled beer can cars and airplanes and other beer can creations. It makes really lovely décor for the pool room you keep telling your wife or girlfriend you want instead of her sewing/craft room. Convince her you are serious about making it a classy room that everyone in the family can use by creating a variety of lovely beer can crafts.
8. Use it as a fire extinguisher. Shake that can up and let it spray. I haven't actually tried this one. A friend told me about it. I think I am more inclined to think that too much beer might start more fires than extinguish them, especially after a few too many are consumed.
9. Treat the brown spots on your lawn with a nice natural beer. The sugars in it may help the grass grow. It might get a little expensive though and you may have a hard time convincing your neighbor that that truckload of beer you just brought home to treat your ailing huge lawn, is not in fact going to be used for a party they might want to be away from home for. You may want to try it on a small patch of grass first just in case it doesn't work and makes the lawn worse. It may smell a bit like it is fermenting in the sun. Is that called wasted grass?
10. Clean copper with beer. Pour some in a dish pan and put the offending dirty piece of copper or copper pot in the beer to soak for a bit. The acid level in it may do the trick on your dirty and stained copper pan bottoms. You can always pour some in a glass to help you work, the way cooks do with wine. Scrub a pot and have a sip. Then repeat. Polish off a beer. Polish off the copper pans. No one can say you weren't working.
Beer is more than an alcoholic beverage to consume in mass quantities. You may have a hard time explaining the liquor bill though after you try all these things and the credit card bill arrives at the end of the month, or the local liquor store demands funds for all those beer deliveries. Keep the link to this list of useful uses for beer handy as evidence to prove that you used the beer for constructive and productive purposes.

Post a CommentOooohhh...Jill, YUMMY! I never thought of using that for tacos. I LOVE to cook with beer...sometimes I even put it in the food! We use beer as the majority of the liquid in our cajun chili. Great reminders of "other" uses for beer!
I laughed my way completely through this article%21 Of course%2C I am fairly proud to say that I have already single-handedly kept the Shiner Brewery solvent over the last few years. Hysterical and fun writing%2C and now I have yet MORE reasons to love beer%21
A friend uses beer in place of the water in her taco meat. Yum!
They say that beer is good for women because it contains estrogen and will strengthen our bones. As good a reason as any. LOL!
Ketchup will shine your copper too. Try it.
LOL! Great ideas, Laurie. I have to admit, though, this Irish girl would still rather drink the beer! ;)
