Cut corn
No matter if you are using frozen or canned corn, cooking on the stovetop can sometimes leave some bland tasting corn. Microwaving corn can also lead to overcooked corn that is gummy or overcooked. Here is the secret to making delicious and moist corn right out of the microwave oven.
If you are using canned corn, drain all of the liquid out of can and put corn into a microwaveable bowl. Put a tablespoon of butter into the bowl and microwave for approx. 3 minutes. The corn should be thoroughly heated and the butter should be fully melted. The butter creates steam and steams the cut corn keeping it moist and giving it a light butter flavor. You can even use the melted butter in the bottom of the bowl for a butter sauce for the corn if you would like. Once you try this method, you most likely will never cook frozen or canned corn the same way again because it is easy to do and it tastes that good.
Corn on the cob
My favorite way to eat corn is right of the cob. My whole family loves corn on the cob and we eat it often. The only drawback is the time that it takes to cook corn on the cob on the stovetop. It seems to take forever and sometimes I have to put it on well before I start my main dish just to make sure that the corn on the cob is done in time. My father taught me this simple ways to cook corn on the cob in the microwave and have it taste better than if it was done on the stovetop.
The first thing that you need is some plastic wrap. Roll each ear in enough plastic wrap to cover the cob and make sure that you cover the entire cob. Place them on a microwave safe plate or platter and microwave at about 2 minutes per ear of corn. The corn steams within the plastic wrap with its own juices and comes out quick and tasting great. It is moist and flavorful and I love that you would never guess that it was cooked any other way than on the stovetop like normal. This is how I cook all of my corn on the cob. This is a great way to allow those that are cooking for one or two to enjoy corn on the cob without all the hassle of boiling the water and such.
I hope that these tips will help you cut down on your dinner cooking and spend more time with your family. It has helped me in the past years and I am happy to share these tips with you. Enjoy!
