How to Cope with Anxiety and Stress

Nancy Clyne
Everyone at one time or another has experienced anxiety. If you personally do not have a problem with anxiety then you most likely know someone who does. We tend to experience anxiety throughout our life, and usually on a daily basis, so even those that don`t have a real problem, probably experience anxiety at least 15 minutes a day.

For example, when we have a very important meeting and we know that everything depends on us. There are some recognized symptoms and levels of anxiety that we can experience and some folks are more affected than others.

Stress and anxiety go hand and hand, if you want to manage anxiety you also need to manage the stress in your life. If you live with high levels of stress, it could be time for a personal shift in lifestyle. Not dealing with stress does no good in anyone`s life. Prevention is better than cure so it can be wise to change elements of your way of life to bring an end to some of the stress in your life.

Not dealing with stress of daily living will lead to poor personal relationships and job failure. On top of that, folks living with very high levels of stress are apt to make bad decisions, many times even irrational decisions, prompting them to engage in dangerous activities, such as stealing, speeding and drunk driving.

There are many things that you can do to relieve stress in your life. Whether you`re sick or healthy, if you are interested in changing your life, your actions, the things you think about or your reaction to any problem, you must step back from it.

To be successful in this initial approach you need to turn off your mind, relax your breathing, and meditate or pray. Tune out the problem completely, even for a short while can assist in relieving stress.

Having a few breaks throughout the day with a couple minutes of fun, here and there, can make a big difference to how your body handles stress. When you have something to look forward to, like doing a crossword puzzle at lunch time or maybe calling a friend at coffee break then you are giving your mind a form of relief and making your self stronger. For some, a brisk little five or ten minute walk with some soothing music on your ipod will bring relief.
