How to Cope when Repairs Are Being Done in Your Apartment

Mrs. Renee
If you rent an apartment for more than a year then you have probably had to deal with repairs being done or items being updated in your apartment. If however you are a stay at home mom with very young children this can be difficult to cope with. Especially if one of your rooms is off limits, such as the kitchen or living room. Since you have to let the landlord make the necessary repairs there is a way that you can make things a little more comfortable for yourself.

First make sure you are specific about what time they will be starting the work, and let them know that they can not begin any early. You have every legal right to do this. This will give you plenty of time to prepare yourself, and your children before anyone arrives. If one of your rooms will be off limits then you should make sure that you take everything that you need out of this particular room. Make sure that you set your children up in one of the other rooms so that they can still have their own space while the work is being done. It is also important to make sure that they are not anywhere near the work area so that they can be kept safe as well. You are probably saying why don't you go somewhere else while the work is being done? Most people are not comfortable leaving strangers in their home, with their things.

What has happened for some is that items were stolen from their home or in some cases they were damaged. In many cases it was not the contractor that caused the damage but actually the landlords who felt that they could then rummage through the apartment while work was being done. Regardless of how you feel, and even if you are comfortable leaving your home you should make sure that you make allow f the necessary arrangements well in advance. Of course this would require that you landlord give you ample notice to do so. In most states it says that landlords must give at least twenty four hours notice before any work can be done in the apartment. You should check your local landlord tenant laws in order to find out if this is true or not, or what your rights are in your state. The bottom line is that it will probably be very annoying and make your life a little on the miserable side for a few days; too at least the bright side is that you will have a much nicer apartment in the long run.

Lol, this article would be so useful if our landlord actually did repairs! They recently sold the building and haven't fixed anything that we reported needed fixing for like six months. Luckily though it really wasn't anything too serious. I'd hate to be the new landlord though. Hopefully, your tips will be able to come in handy then though.
