Your significant other may go through an up and down roller coaster of emotions and you could be the person to be at the receiving end of all of them. You need to be able to have an outlet to get out frustrations about your partner when talking to them at that moment is just not possible. In addition, it provides an opportunity to have some time by yourself to clear your head and have self reflection.
Talk to a trusted loved one
There are some feelings that may not be able to be discussed with your significant other right when you want to talk about them. Sometimes you just want to get things off your chest right away so consider opening up to a trusted loved one about how you're feeling when it's not the right opportunity to talk to your significant other. When you're feeling less than optimistic about the situation, the encouragement of a loved one can be just what you need to be ready to face it head on again.
Start making cutbacks
Since one income is now severely decreased or completely gone in the relationship, there may have to be sacrifices made in order to stay afloat financially. Both of you should consider eating home a lot more often, buying store brand products and cutting out unnecessary luxuries. The cutbacks may also be beneficial after your significant other gets a job as it could open your eyes about what money is being frittered away and how much more can be saved. While it makes sense for your significant other to cut back if they lose their job, you may want to consider doing the same as a sign of solidarity. In some cases, it may be a plain out necessity.
Talk about your money situation
In addition to the cutbacks, you should also talk about if there will be any changes are far as contributing to the bills so you know exactly where you stand. Depending on the amount of savings your significant other has and if they are going to be receiving unemployment, they may be paying less then normal and you may be paying more. Financial difficulties in a relationship can be difficult to deal with, but if you compromise and pull together it can work out.
The situation may not be easy and depending on how long your significant other is unemployed it can go on for quite some time. Look at it from their point of view to get an idea of how they're feeling and do everything that you can to help them through the difficult time.
