How to Cope with Waiting for Offers on Articles

Antoinette McGowan
After reading posts that are in the forum I noticed that a lot of people seem to be impatient when it comes to waiting to receive an offer. They practically go stir crazy over it. Other people have ways that they deal with this nerve wrecking waiting period. By no means is writing a career for impatient people. It takes time to write quality work and it takes even more time to receive an offer for all your hard work. So patience is a virtue that is much need in this line of work.

Rest assured though that there are ways of dealing with the waiting period. If dealt with the right way even a normally impatient person can break into writing and still have their hair and sanity left in tacked. Well partially in tacked at least.

First off you must remember that writing is a job just like any other job. Once you realize this then you can start to treat it as one. Treating it like a job will take some of the impatience over getting an offer off of you a little bit. Set aside a schedule of hours to work on your writing each day.

To treat it like a real job make these hours be on the weekdays of Monday through Friday. Take the weekend off to be with friends and family. Once your set hours each day are up, just walk away. If need be RUN from the computer and don't look back.

During your set hours to write you can check periodically for offers that may have been made on previous works. During these hours though spend most of your time looking for ideas of articles to write and actually writing articles. You can find ideas just about anywhere. Take time to think of things that you know and write about them. Interact in AC's forum and see what people are talking about. This is a great way to come up with ideas to write on.

Once your set hours are up find something else to do. Just like any other job, once you clock out your time is your own. So spend the rest of the day doing things you need to do and things that you want to do. The best part of being self-employed as a writer is that you get to spend more time doing what you want to do.

If you spend all day in front of the computer going stir crazy over seeing if you have offers or not, you are going to burn out. Trust me burn-out is not a good thing.

If you just can not do it this way and just have to be in front of that computer , then go with something that give quicker results. Writing news reports gives you quicker results for the most part. There for you don't end up waiting practically days to see if what you wrote has been approved or not. Don't forget to write regular articles also along with your news reports. This just kind of help take the edge off the waiting for an offer.

If you do one or two news reports along with your regular articles each day, then you can see offers almost immediately everyday so that you don't go pulling your hair out and losing your sanity while waiting on the offers for your articles.

After awhile it will get easier to deal with this waiting period no matter how impatient you are. Don't forget that when tempted to sit and hit the refresh button over and over again that to make money you need to be focused more on writing. So tell yourself over and over again that the more you write the more money you will make. When you see yourself about to hit the refresh button just tell yourself that the refresh button does not make you money. Focusing on dollar signs can also help to curb this nasty habit.

Good suggestions, and great idea for an article. Thanks. :)

This is a great article! I visit freelancewriting.com and look for people who are interested in writers. I have found that this helps take the edge off. Most of the people who hire on this site pay you within a day of submitting your completed work. Additionally, when I am able to, I try to write at least 1-4 articles a day for AC. This helps to curb the impatience of offers. If you write a little something each day, you will eventually end up receiving offers each day. In the meantime, if I cannot think of anything to write, I start cleaning out closets and I post auctions on Ebay...lol. Hey, money is money, right? You HAVE to find ways to feed the money addiction, or you WILL go nuts!

If you have not posted this in the forums yet you should. Better yet, Michael should post this in the forums.

I can totally understand frustration people feel. I had a heck of a time when I first started writing. I was working a regular job, plus going to school and dealing with a family. Now I am still writing, and I run a retail business as well, so time is something I still dont have a lot of. But the kids are now on their own, and some of the pressures I had are gone. I am not stressing as much and my writing is coming easier. Dont sweat the small stuff, diversfy and enjoy your craft! Great article!

There seem to be more and more of these how to deal with problems and frustrations at AC articles. Why oh why can't we just get the problems fixed? You do make some valid points about keeping a lot of articles in the hopper.
