How to Make a Copper Birdbath - Materials Needed
The first thing you'll need to make a copper birdbath is 20 SWG Copper sheet. You can find a copper sheet at some craft and hobby stores or at a local home improvement store or hardware store.
Other materials you need to make a copper birdbath are a china marker (also called a chinagraph pencil), string, a suction cap, protective gloves, tin snips, a metal file, an old blanket, hammer, 13 ft medium copper wire, a bench vice, cup hook, and a drill with a 1/8 inch bit.
How to Make a Copper Birdbath - Step #1
The first step to make a copper birdbath is to place the suction cup in the center of the copper sheet. Loop a piece of string around the suction cup and attach it to the china marker. Using the china marker mark an eighteen inch circle on the copper sheet.

The second step to make a copper birdbath is to cut out the circle with the tin snips. Make sure you are wearing the protective gloves for this step. Once you have the circle cut out, smooth the edges with a metal file.
How to Make a Copper Birdbath - Step #3
The next step to make a copper birdbath is to place the copper circle on the old blanket. Use the hammer and lightly hammer it from the center, spreading the dips out to the rim of the circle. Repeat this step until you have made a sort of bowl shape that water can collect in. Don't make it too deep. It should resemble a flat, shallow pan or bowl.
How to Make a Copper Birdbath - Step #4
The next step to make a copper birdbath is to make the perch. Loop about 40 inches of the copper wire and hold the ends in the vice. Put a cup hook into the chuck of the drill. Now put the hook through the loop and run the drill on low to twist the wire.
After you've completed this task, you'll then need to drill three equally spaced holes around the rim of the copper birdbath.
How to Make a Copper Birdbath - Step #5
The final step to make a copper birdbath is to divide the remaining wire into three equal lengths and make a knot in one end of each piece. Thread the wire through the holes from beneath the bath. Slip the twisted wire over two straight wires to form a perch for the birds.
Finally, bend the tops of the hanging wires into a loop. Now you've made a beautiful homemade copper birdbath of your very own. Hang it, fill it with water and enjoy!
