How to Copy DVD Movies to the Samsung P2 Personal Movie Player

Blair Mathis
Touchscreen displays are one of the newest features to grace the personal audio and video market, with Samsung on the forefront of the movement. Samsung has several touchscreen players available, including the T10 and P2.

The Samsung P2 is one of the few touchscreen personal movie players on the market with such a large screen, widescreen display. It is intended to be thin and light enough to be used as a daily mp3 player, yet has a screen large enough to make this a satisfying PMP.

The Samsung P2 makes such a wonderful player, in fact, that Cinema Now has added the option to download videos pre-converted to meet the player specifications. While this is a wonderful option, it doesn't make sense to most to pay for a movie that they already own on DVD.

If you have a DVD that you already own and would like to put on your player, read on to find out how.

Items Needed:

Samsung P2
PC
MediaCoder

Step 1: MediaCoder is a free program, and is a front for the popular Mencoder. MediaCoder comes with presets for many different players, and the Samsung P2 is one of them. Download this program and install it onto your system.

Before MediaCoder can be used, you will need to copy the DVD to your hard drive. To do this, you will need DVD Decrypter. It is free - download and install it to your computer.

Step 2: Open DVD Decrypter and insert the DVD into your computer. In DVD Decrypter, choose Mode > IFO. Click the green button to convert the video.

Step 3: Once the conversion is done and the VOB saved to your hard drive, open MediaCoder. Load the VOB files and then choose OPTIONS at the top. In option, choose Samsung P2 as the portable device to convert to.

In the main settings, make sure the container format is SVI - sometimes it leaves it in AVI mode, which is incorrect. The settings should be correct for the player now. Make sure the audio is set to 128kbps. You can leave the frame rate at 29.97, but changing it to 25 will result in a smaller file size.

When you're ready, choose to encode the settings and wait for it to finish. Once it's done, transfer it to your device either with Bluetooth or by cable. Make sure that it plays correctly. If it doesn't make sure you have all the settings correct.
