How to Make a Corn Log Squirrel Feeder

John Yates
Measure, mark and cut a 9-inch by 9-inch square of one inch thick plywood. This will be the base of the feeder on which the corn and squirrels will rest.

Hammer a 3-inch carpentry nail directly into the center of the wooden square. There should be two inches sticking out of the other side of the wood. This nail is the anchor for the corn logs that will hold them in place.

Dig a 2-foot deep hole for the wooden post, making sure the bottom of the hole is level so the post does not wobble. Place the wooden post into the hole, centering the post as best as you can.

Pack the dirt back into the hole around the post. Pack the dirt as tightly as you can, otherwise the post will become loose over time and lean to one side.

Nail the feeder base to the top of the wooden post so that the first nail is sticking straight up in the air. Use at least four carpentry nails to do this so that it is sturdy enough to hold the squirrels.

Hammer a corn log down onto the upright nail. The corn will stand upright, which is how the squirrels prefer as they tear corn kernels from it.
