How to Make a Corsage

Corsages are a great way to liven up any outfit and they can look really stylish, but they can also be very expensive.

Making your own is really simple.

You will need:

2 different lengths of fabric

Thread

Scissors

Needle

Tape measure

Fabric glue

Buttons/sequins/gems

Iron on interfacing

Badge or safety pin

Sewing machine (optional, but faster)

Step 1.First cut the piece you will use for the outer ruffle, it should measure 10cm by 45cm, next, cut the piece you will use for the inner ruffle, this should be 5cm by 30cm. Fold the first piece of fabric in half along the length, wrong sides together and iron, repeat with the smaller piece of fabric.

Step 2.

Lay the largest piece of fabric out flat with the right sides together and stitch the ends together to create a circle of fabric. Be sure to leave a 1cm seam allowance.

Step 3. Fold the fabric in half again so that the wrong sides are together and stitch along the bottom using a running stitch, make the stitches about 5mm from the edge.

Step 4. When you have done all the stitches and are back where you started, pull the thread tightly so that the fabric forms a ruffle and secure the thread with a tight double knot. Repeat for the other piece of fabric.

Step 5: Glue the smaller ruffle on top of the larger one, Make sure you use fabric glue that is suitable for the material you have chosen. Sew or glue buttons/sequins/gems or whatever you choose onto the centre of the corsage.

Step 6. Iron a piece of fabric onto the interfacing and cut out a piece big enough for the back of the corsage, glue it onto the back and attach a badge pin or safety pin.
