Colleges are very careful when hiring Counselors, so don't think for one second that these people are not professionals because they are. They are also normal people just like you and they can help you no matter what your problem is. You could perhaps have just a minor problem and they will be more than willing to help you out. You can even go in there to ask them a quick question if you are unsure about what to do about something. If you just need someone to talk to or you want someone to listen to you vent, they are there for that. If you don't actually want any advice, you can tell them that and they won't give you any. They will just listen.
The Counseling Center is already paid for in your tuition so you should definitely use this resource. You don't have to be some insane person to go to counseling. It is good to get out of your room or take a break from your homework to talk about your stress, family, friends, school, homework, or anything else going on in your life. It doesn't have to be anything major. They are just people that you can talk to in order to make your life that much easier. On a college campus, there is always so much going on everywhere and sometimes it's hard to take it all in. Sometimes you don't know who to talk to or who to go to who may have answers to your questions. It doesn't hurt to find out what a counselor will say.
I am just a normal college student just like any other who has piles of homework and reading every night, a job I have to keep up, friends I hang out with, a boyfriend, and everything else in my life. When life gets too hectic, you can't just hold everything in and expect it to go away because it doesn't. It just stays there until you do something about it. And sometimes the easiest way to do something about it is to talk to someone who knows what they are talking about. These counselors speak to students like you every day, students that have the same problems as you do. They really can help you if you let them. And it's completely free! Once you get out of college, you won't have free access to a counselor anymore.
If you have thought about going to the Counseling Center for a listening ear but just haven't gone yet, give it a try. It can make all the difference. Even if you haven't thought about it, maybe you should. It might be that one thing you needed to get through college.
