How to Use Coupons Without Inconveniencing Others

Save Money with Coupons Without Holding Up the Line

Jennifer Foote
With food prices on the rise, more consumers are turning to grocery coupons to save money. These grocery coupons do result in saved money, but they are also known to result in mean stares and rude comments from other consumers, especially those waiting in line. This, alone, has caused many consumers to rethink their decision to use moneysaving coupons. So, what should you do?

First and foremost, do not stop using coupons because the person behind you in line at the grocery store may be upset with the delay. Yes, it is important to be concerned about others, but now is the time to consider yourself. If you need to save money on groceries, use coupons.

Although you should worry more about your personal finances than the views of the unhappy customer behind you in line at the checkout, it is also important to be reasonably considerate. The good news is that you can use grocery coupons without holding the cash register line too long. For tips on how to do so, please continue reading on.

Create a grocery shopping list. When you create a grocery shopping list, you know ahead of time what you need to buy. You can then go through your stack of coupons and sort through them. If you have coupons for items that you will buy at the grocery store, put those coupons in a separate envelope. Leave the coupons you will not use at home. This means less coupons for you to sort through at the register, saving time.

Sort your grocery coupons even more. If you intend to shop at multiple stores, try separating your coupons based on stores in which you will use them at. For example, if you know that will purchase toilet paper at Wal-Mart, as opposed to the grocery store, set that coupon aside in a separate envelope or in a separate coupon organizer section. Once again, this is less coupons for you to have to sort through at the register.

Set aside grocery coupons as you buy each item. This is one of the best ways to reduce time and hassle when using moneysaving grocery coupons. When you enter the store, pull out your shopping list and coupons. Whenever you buy an item that you have a coupon for, set it aside. You can put the item into your pocket, a separate section of your coupon organizer, or in a safe place in the shopping cart. With this approach, your coupons are already sorted. Simply just hand them to the cashier.

Write the price on coupons where a price is needed. If you have a coupon that allows you to buy one item and get another free, there is a blank space on the coupon that asks for the price. Write this price in yourself. The cashier should appreciate this small and simple step. It means they do not have to review the receipt to find the item in question.

Keep price required items for the end. Whether you don't have a pen handy or if your cashier still verifies prices you wrote on a buy one and get one free coupon, put the item on the register last. This allows your cashier to easily find the price on the bottom of their screen, instead of having to search for it.

Ask for errors to be fixed. Although this will take longer, it is important to remember the money you can save with coupons. Unfortunately, some stores have difficulty with the scanning of printable internet coupons. Some coupons need to be entered in by hand. It will take a few extra seconds, but remember not to let the consumer behind you bother you. After all, they could have opted for another line.

By implanting a few of the above mentioned steps, you can use and save money with the use of grocery coupons and do so with ease.

If I know I'm going to use a lot of coupons, I try to shop off-hours when the store is less busy.
