What You Need to Cover Gray Hair with Herbs
To cover gray hair with herbs, you'll need several different herbs. You'll need sage, black walnut hulls, rosemary and nettle.
You'll also need two regular tea bags, virgin olive oil, distilled water and gloves. If you don't use gloves, this formula may stain your hands and nails.
Cover Gray Hair with Herbs - Step #1
Boil eight cups of distilled water and remove from heat. Add one ounce sage, two ounces black walnut hulls, one ounce rosemary, one ounce nettle, and the two tea bags to the water. Cover and allow the herbs and water to steep for four hours.
Cover Gray Hair with Herbs - Step #2
After four hours have elapsed, strain the mixture. Add two teaspoons of virgin olive oil to the remaining liquid and store in the refrigerator. This formula will stay fresh for about three weeks. Discard any unused portion of the formula after this time period.
Cover Gray Hair with Herbs - Step #3
Now that you've made the formula, it's time to apply it to your hair to really cover gray hair with herbs. Shampoo your hair as usual and rinse. Put on gloves to prevent staining and apply about a half cup of the herb formula. Massage well into hair and scalp for one to two minutes.
Cover Gray Hair with Herbs - Step #4
Squeeze out any excess liquid from your hair and towel dry. Make sure you use a darker colored towel to prevent staining. If you have thick or coarse hair, you may want to leave the formula on your hair for five or ten minutes before rinsing as this hair type may be resistant to absorbing the color. For thin, fine hair you can probably go ahead and rinse right away.
Cover Gray Hair with Herbs - Step #5
Rinse the formula from your hair by hanging your head over the tub or in the sink to avoid stains on your skin. Make sure to rinse thoroughly and then towel dry or blow dry.
Continue this treatment daily for up to two weeks or until you have sufficiently covered your gray hair. After you've reached the desired shade, you can use this formula as needed to maintain the shade.
Another technique to keep your newly covered gray hair dark is to mix one fourth cup of your regular shampoo with one fourth cup of this darkening formula. Wash your hair with this new mixture daily (no gloves needed) to keep your gray hair covered.

Post a CommentThanks for this! Is it absolutely necessary to use distilled water?
can I use black walnut powder instead of black walnut hulls? Do I use the same measurement of powder as hulls?
re: covering gray hair with herbs. Can you substitute the black walnut hulls powder for the black walnut hulls? Can you use nettle capsules to get 1 ounce of nettles? And can you use the rosemary from your kitchen? Please let me know if it is possible to substitute these things and if it will work this way. I would love to try it. Thanks.
This is very cool. I colored my hair at one time and the chemicals were just awful. If I need to do it again, I would go this route. Is the formula the same for all hair colors and types?
You know, I may need to start doing this in a few years, but geez, I can just see my bathroom will be a holy mess!
oops ... meant to say "I'll have to try this".
I'll have to try some of these :D
