How to Cover Wall Imperfections Such as Dings, Holes and Marks

Owning a home requires a lot of hard work in maintaining and improving the condition so that you can increase its value. One of the most common home repairs that are required is maintaining your walls. Most walls are sheetrock and require some repairs over time because of dings, holes and other conditions that occur to the walls.

Repairing sheetrock walls requires spackle to fill dings and holes. You must apply spackle to the holes and apply the spackle flush with the holes. If the holes or dings are deep apply the spackle heavy and allow it to extend past the wall surface. Allow the spackle to dry overnight and then you must sand down the spackle flush with the other surface of the wall. When sanding your walls its best to wear a dust mask so you don't get all the spackle dust in your mucous membranes.

When you apply paint to a spackled spot it usually appears smoother than the rest of the wall and can be an eye sore. You may have to use another method to fix the walls such as faux painting or using a textured coat of paint.

Once you got the holes or dings fixed and it still doesn't look quite right you can fix the imperfection in the wall. You either paint the walls with a textured paint or use a faux method to cover those imperfections in the wall.

Using a textured colored paint allows you to hide all noticeable marks and imperfection in the wall. The textured paint resembles a stucco like finish to your walls and looks good as wells as spruces up your home. The faux painting method allows you to apply different painting techniques such as light to dark paint that appears like a smeared look that helps cover those wall dings and imperfections.

The faux painting technique takes some practice in learning the current methods on the market. The best way to cover imperfection would be the textured paint because it hides all marks, dings and spackled holes. The textured look to the wall gives a new look versus the traditional smooth walls that are found in most homes.

Faux painting can be quite expensive because you have to buy all the special tools and then practice the methods in applying the painting schemes. You can buy textured paint for around $15 to $35 dollars a gallon.

The drawback for using textured paint to repair a sheetrock wall is that if you decide to go back to a smooth surface you'll have to sand down the textured paint. This will create a lot of hard work and a lot of dust.
