Materials
A straw wreath (any size)
calico or cotton fabric
a small Phillips head screwdriver
raffia or wide wire ribbon and craft wire
Directions
Before you can start your country wreath you will need to prepare the fabric. Begin by cutting the fabric into 2" squares. You can use regular scissors, or to create a more decorative look cut the squares with pinking shears. It's up to you.
Now you are ready to start the fun portion of this project, attaching the fabric to the wreath. Lay a 2" square of fabric on the straw wreath, using the Phillip head screwdriver push the center of the fabric approx a 1/2" into the straw wreath. Working on a small section at a time, continue adding the fabric making sure to place them close enough together to hide the straw. Continue this technique until the front, sides and the center of the wreath are covered in fabric. Do not add any fabric to the back side, this way the country wreath will hang nicely against a flat surface.
Once you have finished covering the country wreath with the fabric, turn the wreath over and with the craft wire attach a loop to the back for hanging. Now flip the country wreath right side up. Using raffia or wide wire ribbon, make a large bow. Attach the large bow to the top or bottom of the wreath, using the craft wire or hot glue, if you prefer. Your country wreath is finished and ready to hang.
Tips:
You can choose to use a variety of fabrics with different patterns and colors on your country wreath or just use one or two different colors. It's totally up to you. You can use Christmas fabrics to design a gorgeous Christmas wreath and top it off with a metallic bow. Another option, is to add embellishments to your country wreath. Using hot glue you can attach plastic fruit, pine cones or acorns etc. For a Christmas wreath attach some pretty ornaments. Let your creativity flow and have a great time crafting your country wreath.
