Materials

Styrofoam balls (any size)
marker
mosaic pieces (broken china/dinnerware or ceramic tiles)
hammer
tile cutters
ceramic tile adhesive
tile grout
rubber spatula
sponge
a soft rag

Directions

Before you can start crafting your glass mosaic spheres, you will need to create your mosaic pieces. Take a plate or tile and wrap it in an old towel. Place the towel on a hard surface and hit it with the hammer to break the contents. Make sure you are wearing rubber gloves, the entire time you are working with broken glass to protect your hands. Now unwrap the towel and remove any desired pieces. Continue this step until you have enough mosaic pieces to cover your glass mosaic spheres.

Using the marker, draw out any designs or details you want onto the Styrofoam ball. Apply a small amount of tile adhesive to the back of your mosaic pieces and begin attaching them firmly into place on the Styrofoam ball. Use the tile cutters to cut any pieces to size, if needed.

Next prepare the tile grout per the manufacturer's directions. Once the grout has been mixed to a smooth and spreadable consistency, use the spatula to apply the grout to your glass mosaic spheres. Spread the grout on the surface, making sure to fill in all of the spaces between the mosaic pieces. Use a damp sponge to remove any excess grout. Rinse the sponge and smooth the grout again, continue this procedure until the grout is smooth and sits level with the mosaic pieces.

Now let the grout set up, for about an hour. Then lightly wipe the mosaic pieces with a clean damp sponge to remove any haze from the grout. Let your glass mosaic spheres, dry completely. Once it is dry use a soft rag to polish the mosaic pieces. Enjoy your newly crafted, glass mosaic spheres.

Note: Some craft stores sell ready made mosaic pieces, if you would prefer to use them.
