How to Craft a No-Sew Rag Basket
This Craft Project Will Teach You How to Easily Create a Rag Basket Without Sewing a Single Stitch
Materials:
fabric scraps (that total 1 yd)
1 yard of cotton cord
hot glue gun/glue
Directions:
Begin by cutting the fabric into strips that measure 12" up to 24" long by 1" wide. Longer strips work best if you will be using only one type of fabric for your rag basket. If you plan to use several different fabrics for your rag basket, then you will need to use shorter strips.
Now grab one end of the cotton cord and a strip of fabric, add a small amount of glue to the end of the cord and start wrapping the fabric around the cord. You will want to keep adding the glue approximately every inch or so throughout the wrapping process. Continue this step, until the entire cord is covered with fabric.
You are now ready to assemble your rag basket. The first step is to determine the shape of your rag basket. Round or oval baskets are the best choice for beginners. If you are going to make your rag basket round, begin at one end of the cord, add a line of glue around the side and start wrapping the cord into a tight spiral. After you have formed the base of your rag bowl, add another line of glue on top of the outer strip and begin working your way up. Continue this process until you have reached the end of the cord. Your round rag basket is complete.
To make your rag basket oval, fold the end of the cord over about 2" and glue it in place. Add a line of glue around the side and begin the wrapping process. When your base is the size you want, continue working your way up to finish your oval rag basket.
Hints:
If you would like to make a striped rag basket, attach the fabric to the cord a small section at a time. Use this step: Wrap a section of the cord with one color, glue and wrap this portion of the basket. Wrap the cord with your next color, glue and wrap this portion of the basket. Continue changing the colors and creating your rag basket in this manner.
Tips:
To make a larger basket, use a longer length of cord and increase the amount of fabric.
I hope you enjoy crafting this easy no sew rag basket!
