Learn how to give your old towels new purpose by crafting them into soft and lovely bathroom accessories. The steps below will teach you how to craft a soft bath mat and stylish curtains for your bathroom, while extending the life of your old towels.

Bath Mat
Materials:
Old towels, grid mat (non slip mat), tape measure, scissors

Tips: A grid mat can be purchased at craft stores or discount stores. It is basically the same mat that is used under area or throw rugs to stop them from sliding. The amount of towels that you will need, will depend on the size of the bath mat that you plan to make. You can use old towels you have on hand or search your local thrift stores and garage sales for great deals.

Directions: Once you have determined the size of your bath mat, cut the grid to your specific dimensions. Now take your towels and cut them into strips that measure 5" long by 1" wide. Once all of the towels have been cut into strips you are going to add them to the grid.

Using a double knot, begin tying a towel strip to each line on the grid. After every line has a strip attached, your bath mat is complete. I recommend washing and drying your bath mat after it is finished. This will remove the fuzz from cutting the fabric and fluff up your newly crafted bath mat.

Hints: When gathering your towels together for your bath mat, keep a color scheme in mind. You can even add a design to your bath mat, by tying the strips to the grid lines with various lay outs. Design a flower, add a monogram, add geometric shapes or stripes, it's up to you. Use your imagination to craft your own custom bath mat.

Bathroom Curtains
Materials:
2 old towels, trim, hot glue gun/glue, tape measure, scissors, chalk and cafe rings or shower rings.

Tips: If you have a small bathroom window, 2 matching bath towels are usually all it takes to craft a pair of curtains. If you have a larger window you may need more towels and they will need to be sewn together to create larger curtain panels.

Directions: Begin by measuring the end of a towel (across the bottom). Cut a piece of trim 1" longer than this measurement. Run a line of hot glue along the bottom edge of the towel and place the trim on top, leaving a 1/2" of the trim on both ends. Flip the towel over and apply a small amount of glue to the 1/2" sections, fold them over to the backside of the towel.

If you are using clamp on cafe rings, place them along the top of the towel every 3". If you are going to use shower rings, measure and place a mark every 3" along the top of the towel. Use the scissors to snip a small hole, wherever there is a mark. Insert the shower rings. Hang and enjoy your new curtains.

Hints: Decorating your curtains with trim, is a quick way to add a great look to your curtains. There are so many varieties of trim available, for your consideration. You can add: ruffles, lace, tassels, beads etc.

These craft projects are not only easy to craft, but are easy on the wallet!
