How to Craft a Set of Hanging Wall Baskets
Hanging Wall Baskets Are a Great Way to Add Extra Storage to Any Room in the House
Materials: 3 square nesting baskets (wicker), a spool of cotton cording (clothes line), tape measure, scissors and a ceiling hook or heavy duty hook.
Directions: Begin by cutting 4 strips of cotton cord, that measure 2 yards each. Now grab the large basket and insert the end of one of the cords into the corner of the basket, between the weaves. Tie the cord in a double knot, pulling it tight. Next, attach the three remaining strips of cord to the last three corners of the basket, in the same manner.
Now measure each strand of cord 12" up from the top of the basket and tie a small knot on each one. Now grab the medium size basket and insert the cords through each corner of the basket until each knot is on top of the rim. Wrap each cord around the rim of the basket on each corner and tie them securely in place.
Once again measure the cords 12" up from the basket rim and tie a knot. Tie the cords to the small basket, using the same step as above.
Now determine where you want to hang your baskets and screw the ceiling hook into the wall at your height preference.
Now take all 4 ends of the cords and tie them together. Hang the knotted cords over the hook. You will need to adjust the knot so that the baskets will lay flat against the wall. They should have a nice tiered effect. Once you are satisfied with the way they look, tighten the knot and trim away the excess cord.
Hints: Nesting baskets are easy to obtain from craft stores, discount stores etc. They are most often found in natural wood colors, but I have seen them in white. If you want your hanging wall baskets to coordinate with your decor, simply spray paint them any color you desire.
Tips: Wouldn't a set of hanging wall baskets be perfect in a baby nursery for storing diapers, lotions and small blankets! You could paint them to match the decor and even tie some pretty ribbons on it.
The options and potential for these hanging wall baskets are unlimited. Whether used for storage or as home decor these hanging wall baskets are a great choice.
