How to Craft a Smelly Jelly Christmas Decoration
This Christmas Decoration Will Compliment Your Christmas Decor and Fill the Air with a Delightful Aroma
Materials:
Clear container
polymer water crystals (available in craft stores)
liquid potpourri
small Christmas decorations
fragrance oil
hot glue gun
lace
trim
ribbon
Directions:
Wash and dry the glass container, then add the liquid potpourri using a measuring cup, fill to the top of the container. Document the amount of potpourri that you used. To add extra scent, add some fragrance oil until the aroma is as strong as you would like it to be.
Now add one teaspoon of the crystals per each cup of liquid potpourri used. Mix well, and allow the crystals to fully absorb the potpourri (approximately an hour). The gel should be clear and slightly firm.
Next, insert your Christmas decorations into the gel with your fingers, arranging them any way you like. Decorations you might consider are: Christmas florals, figures, beads, a Christmas tree etc.
Cut a piece of lace to fit the top of the glass container and use the hot glue gun to attach it to the rim. Cut a piece of decorative trim, to fit around the rim of the glass container and glue it in place. Add a festive bow to your smelly jelly Christmas decoration.
Hints: You can add a submersible light to the bottom of your smelly jelly Christmas decoration and colored glass marbles to create a beautiful glowing smelly jelly Christmas decoration. Instead of topping your smelly jelly Christmas decoration with lace you can also create a top with card stock. Choose a color to coordinate with your decorations and cut the cardboard to fit the top. Using a paper hole punch or exacto knife cut out some decorative air vents and hot glue the cardboard to the top of the container. Tie a Christmas ribbon around the rim of the smelly jelly Christmas decoration.
Tips: The potpourri liquid and scent may evaporate a little overtime. Simply add a little more liquid potpourri and fragrance oil to refresh your smelly jelly Christmas decoration.
Enjoy your smelly jelly Christmas decoration! Happy Holidays, from my home to yours!
