Learn how to craft an old vinyl record into a beautiful wall clock. This craft project is a great way to recycle old objects into a new re purposed item. Not only is this clock fun and easy to craft, it will become a wonderful time piece you will be proud to display.

Materials:1 vinyl record album, a scrap of fabric (any color or style), chalk, Mod Podge, foam brush, scissors, small pie plate(optional), large gems or clock numbers, hot glue gun/glue sticks, clock mechanism kit (available in craft stores).

Tips: Be sure to choose a clock kit that will fit the thickness of your album, as they come in various sizes. If the hole in the record is a tad bit small for the stem on the clock mechanism, simply shave it slightly with a small drill bit. Some clock kits also include stick on clock numbers, but if you prefer a nicer look you can purchase nice vinyl numbers, use craft gems, buttons etc. Make sure the fabric that you use is dark enough to hide the black surface of the record, if not add a quick coat of acrylic craft paint to the surface before proceeding.

Directions: Before you begin, cover a flat work surface with newspaper or plastic. Now lay your fabric face down onto your work surface. Place the record on top of the fabric and using the chalk trace around the outer edge of the record. Remove the record and cut out the circle.

Now place the record on top of the pie plate (this is to elevate the project while it dries later on). Next, apply a coat of Mod Podge on the surface of the album with the foam brush. Carefully place your pre-cut fabric onto the glued surface and smooth out the surface to remove any air bubbles or wrinkles ( a credit card or a hard edged surface is helpful). Now add a final coat of Mod Podge over the fabric. Allow the project to dry thoroughly before proceeding.

Once the clock face has dried, use a sharp pair of scissors to pierce the hole in the center and trim around the edge of the clock if needed. Now using the hot glue gun attach the numbers or gems to their usual positions on a typical clock. Attach the clock mechanism following the manufacturers directions. Your new clock is ready for display!

Hints: If you would like to embellish your clock even more, beads, gems and fabric trims are excellent ways to trim the border of your clock. Another option you might consider is finishing the back side of your clock in another fabric, this way you can remove the clock mechanism(which is a breeze) and place it on the other side for a completely different look. This will basically give you a two clock choices to choose from!

You can craft a clock to match the fabrics in your decor, make a modern statement or craft a wall clock with a theme. Your options are only limited by your imagination.
