How to Creat a Wardrobe that Will Not Go 'Out of Style' After One Season

Sometimes we all fall into a style craze and many times go broke spending hard earned money on the latest fashions - only to see them go out of style within six months. In a few cases, we give the clothes away and then the trend comes back sooner than we think. This can be very irritating - especially for women, who shop for clothing twice as much as men do. Well ladies, have no fear. There is something we can do to save ourselves the money while becoming more fashion conscious.

Every woman needs essential pieces in her wardrobe that can last for a number of years. To choose the right mix, you must have knowledge of older styles versus what the fashionistas strut on the catwalk in this day and age. It's a proven fact that style has a way of repeating itself. Some looks never go out of style such as the classic trench or the 'little black dress.' Here are a few tips on how to make sure your style transcends time.

SIGNATURE PIECES

It's always easy to start with pants. Buying pants can definitely be a hassle, but the saying 'you get what you pay for' immediately comes to mind. I suggest that you invest in buying pants of good durable quality. The most common pair will be black slacks, because you can wear those at any function and still look fashionable. There are always certain patterns or prints that come and go with each season so pick and choose according to your own taste but be mindful of the future.

Let's not forget jeans. I am so thankful for this creation because it really simplifies the looks we need for different occasions. I have found that buying a few pairs of high quality jeans is better than buying lots of jeans that I forget to wear. Go out and choose a select few that run $150-$200 a piece and watch how great of a deal you've made. Learn where to splurge your money and make it work for you.

Shoes are more difficult, primarily because of the way we treat them. Some women are better on taking care of shoes than others so they may have pumps that are ten years old and in mint condition. This also may be because of the price they pay for the shoes. Unless you're an heiress, movie star, or high roller, you really can't afford to buy $800 shoes on a whim. However, if you do invest in a nice pair of black, red, or tan pumps, be sure to keep them in good condition.

Jewelry and handbags are apart of a woman's total ensemble and therefore is very essential to this conversation on fashion. Pearls are a given. Diamonds are more than welcome. So, what about the costume jewelry which includes the bangles, bright beads, and large hoop earrings? If you are intent on keeping those pieces, then put them in a separate jewelry box AWAY from your real jewelry. Do not throw all your pieces together, for a catastrophe would occur soon enough. Stay away from extreme extravagance when choosing jewels. Find pieces that are reflective of your personalized tastes. Handbags are similar to jeans. We tend to buy lots of them to match every single outfit and that's in one word - WRONG! Try saving up for a classic Louis Vuitton, Gucci, or Chanel bag. Those purses will still be in style when you are 80 years of age. You could store all your purses in a deep case as well. Be kind to your purse and it will be kind to you.
