Tips for Making a Beautiful Garden Sanctuary for Birds

There isn't anything more rewarding than to be able to sit in your own backyard and enjoy nature. Your very own nature preserve. It isn't as hard as you may think to create a beautiful habitat for your feathered friends. There are several types of bird feed that will attract different kinds of birds. Just take a look at all of the different types of bird seed the next time you are at your local pet store or even Wal-mart. I would suggest to use several types of feed to attract more than one kind of bird. The more the merrier!

It is a nice touch to put bird houses all over the backyard in different places. You can put some bird houses up on a pole, up in a tree or even a pretty bird feeder hanging from the tree. One idea to consider is to get a plant hanger and hang a nice bird feeder or bird house from it.

Of course your bird habitat wouldn't be complete without a nice place for the birds to take a bath! You can find all kinds of bird baths. They vary in sizes, shapes and prices. You can find one that suits your need and what you want for your bird sanctuary. You will need to change out the water in the bird bath every few days. You want your feathered friends to have clean water to drink and to splash in.

Don't forget those small feathered friends, hummingbirds. Hummingbirds will make a nice addition to your backyard bird sanctuary. You can put out several hummingbird feeders throughout the backyard. I would suggest to make your own hummingbird mix. It will save you money and it is so easy to do. I have done this several times. All you need to do is add 1 part of sugar to 4 parts of water. Add together a little at a time. Bring it to a boil and stir until sugar is dissolved.

I would recommend you change out your hummingbird solution at least every other day if you live in a hot climate. Sometimes it may need to be changed out everyday if temperatures are really hot. You can mix up a lot of hummingbird mix in advance and store it in the fridge for about 2 weeks. I live in Texas and the heat can get really bad in the summer. You do not want your mix to be out in the heat for very long.

The types of plants and greenery you have in your backyard are also important. You want to make sure you do not have anything harmful to the birds if they eat it. In fact, you may want to have berry plants or other type of plants that the birds can enjoy eating. That could be one more way to attract birds to your yard.

Just remember, the more variety of plants and food you have available in your backyard the more birds it will attract.
