How to Create Beautiful Stamped Designs with Multiple Colors

Rubber Stamping can seem like a very daunting hobby to the beginner. I remember when I started, I didn't have a clue what I was doing. My aunt just offered me a bunch of rubber stamps, so I took them and to be honest, they sat around for a long time. Then when I finally picked them up to play, I didn't know how to do anything but stamp with a single color and wow, did that really get to me.

After making boring plain stamped designs for several months, I had just had enough of it. So, one day I picked up my water based markers and started coloring one of the stamps. I colored each line, the color I though it should be and then stamped. It worked! I had just stamped the most adorable snowman! His body was white, his buttons black and he actually had an orange nose!

How can you do it?

Step One: Choose your stamp

I really recommend starting out with a stamp that has simple lines. Don't go with a shadowed person or animal. Start out with a gift box or a snowman, something with simple shapes and lines.

Step Two: Color your stamp

Choose the colors you want to use, then slowly color the lines of the stamp in each color you think they should be. Make sure you use a very wet marker and cover the lines completely.

Step Three: Stamp

Stamp your image on the paper you've chosen, pressing fairly hard. Be sure to practice this several times before stamping onto an almost completed project! If you didn't cover your lines completely or press hard enough with the stamp it won't work and you are sure to be disappointed!

After you've stamped, you can add chalk to the inside or use your blending pen to create a water color effect. You can just color in the blank spaces with marker or leave them blank, it's up to you. Once you've finished embellishing your stamped image, place it on a handmade card or use it in a scrapbook layout.

Learning to stamp with multi colors opens you up to a whole new world! You can stamp on virtually anything and now you can stamp in any color combination to match! Watch out furniture!

Extra Tip ~ Paint your tropical fish stamps multi-colors using acrylic paints and stamp a border around the bathroom wall! Your kids will absolutely adore it and your friends will think you hired a designer!
