How to Create a Christmas Tree Cake

Jasmine Starr
Christmas is right around the corner and you know what that means. Time to start making plans of what you are going to cook. Don't forget to add the Christmas Tree cake to your list. If you have kids, this will be a big hit with them. This is a great cake that you and your family can enjoy making and decorating. This cake does take a little time to make and decorate but it is fun.

The first thing you do is mix the cake batter according to the box. You can use any kind of cake mix. You are going to need a couple boxes of cake mix. Not unless you are going to make a small tree. But this is how we do ours and you can make adjustments to suit your family.

You are going to need a long rectangle pan and a square pan. Mix your batter and pour the batter into the pans. Then bake your cake according to the box instructions. Once your cakes are done, take them out and let them cool for 20 minutes or so. Wait until they are completely cool to move on.

Next, you will cut the tree out using a knife from the rectangle pan. Please see the image that I have provided to see how to cut your tree. After you have cut your Christmas Tree out, you can move on.

The next step is to cut the bottom of the Christmas Tree, the log. You will use your square cake to cut the log. Just cut a regular log out of the square cake. I would use the length of the cake. Please see the image that I have provided to see how to cut this part.

Now you will need to make something to put your cake on. I take a piece of cardboard and wrap it with tinfoil and use that to put my cake on.

Now you can put your cake together. Next comes the fun part, which is the decorating. I use white icing and change the color of the icing with food coloring. I use green icing for the Christmas Tree and brown icing for the log. Then I use different color icing for the lights. We use different kinds of candy for the ornaments like M&Ms and Skittles.

For the lights we use different colors of icing and I cut a small hole in the corner of a ziplock bag. I have a ziplock bag for each color. Then I put a different color in each bag. Then we put the lights on by squeezing the icing out of the ziplock bag.

You can decorate the Christmas Tree anyway that you want. Have fun with it. The kids will enjoy this Christmas Tree cake. If you have any questions about this cake, please feel free to email me at jasmine_starr_1208@yahoo.com
